NumberOneGun

Forever

Editor's Review:

Get out your sweatbands kids, this debut EP from Chico locals NumberOneGun shares not only the sound of classic early releases by The Promise Ring and The Get Up Kids, but also the same hope of greatness. NumberOneGun doesn't add many new elements to this tried-but-not-tired melodic emo formula, but that's not really the point, is it? The group embraces songwriting and style and dials tightly into the backpack-shoulder-swing breakdown groove of masters Sunny Day Real Estate, all the while keeping it lo-fi, simple and beautiful. Go to the shows, buy the CD; I give these guys exactly one year before they're signed, sealed and delivered in the form of x-large black t-shirts at place like Hot Topic, and you can tell all your townie friends back in SoCal about how cool the Chico scene was in '02.
