Asskickers

Home on the Range

Editor's Review:

In the short time I've owned this CD, it has anchored itself in my regular listening rotation. The Asskickers' second full-length album, Home on the Range, shines thanks to strong songwriting and clever storytelling. If you're familiar with the band's work, you'll know what to expect from this release - traditional country music molested by a scathing punk rock attitude. Songs like "Cocaine Keeps Me Regular," "Venice Beach" and the wickedly addictive title track display a talent for crafting sharp country melodies and delightfully twisted narratives. But what makes it all work is that this Chico-based five-piece can flat out play their instruments; The Asskickers' audacity is perhaps only matched by their musicianship. If you sleep on this one, you're definitely missing out. You can pick up Home on the Range at finer downtown establishments such as Aftershock and Paradise Lost.
