Bigger Cages, Longer Chains EP

Editor's Review:

The (International) Noise Conspiracy's infusion of punk, electric soul and late '60s rock 'n' roll on their latest EP isn't anything new, but it's not all that bad either. This six-song release is bookended by two solid tracks - the title song is largely organ- and horn-driven with subtle, bluesy guitar segues and a spirited, choppy rhythm, while the closer, "When Words Are Not Working" brings fuzzy guitar noise and torrid drumming sweetened by the swooning strains of the saxophone. The production quality is rather thin over all, and the band's cover of N.E.R.D.'s "Baby Doll" screams "skip me," but Bigger Cages, Longer Chains should have enough dirty hooks and defiant lyrics to hold your attention. That, and it's under 23 minutes long.
