Ours

Precious

Editor's Review:

My immediate impression of Ours's Precious was similar to Starsailor's Love is Here; Brit-influenced rock with a penchant for Jeff Buckley falsetto and Radiohead heart-wrenching tension, cast in conventional instrumentation and overtly emotional delivery. However, where Starsailor's album fails to expand upon or uniquely recast those aforementioned elements, Ours succeeds in crafting and reshaping them within their own unique concourse. The sad, soft arpeggios of "Outside" offer contrast to the furiously strummed, swirling octave chords and feedback of "Broken," while "Realize" lets forth a rock solid groove and empowered vocal delivery. Sleepy triple meter provides appropriate lilt when the quintet isn't smacking a 4 / 4 spin on their well-penned Brit-rock tunes. The combination of singer Jimmy Gnecco's strong song contributions and Ethan Johns' crisp, expansive production makes for a satisfying and enjoyable listen.
