DJ Krush
The Message at the Depth
Editor's Review:
The messages within DJ Krush's The Message At the Depth seem to be rooted
in the sociopolitical lyrical slants of the album's guest MCs. "Song For
John Walker" is a fairly obvious and preachy ditty featuring Anticon's
nasally trio, Dose One, Why? and Sole; and "What About Tomorrow" is
a slow and steady reggae jam featuring the anti-war croon of Abijah. But the
overpowering strength of this album, as with all Krush releases, comes from
the Japanese master of musical deconstruction; in classic form, Krush freaks
samples and programmed drum tracks in unreal ways on tunes like "Sanity
Requiem" and lays down smooth, jazz- and soul-based tracks on numbers like
"But The World Moves On." With a musical breadth that has expanded
further into both the realms of ambient and groove, Krush creates a deep, dark
and warm aural environment.
