Chevelle

Wonder What's Next

Editor's Review:

Biting the Fight Club style, the lame-ass video (for a decent enough song, “Red”) that comes with the CD depicts the lead singer as a speaker at an anger management support group. And just like those people court-ordered to attend said meetings, Chevelle isn’t nearly as tough as they’d like to think they are. Something’s missing here. The sum doesn’t add up to the total of its parts and Chevelle manages to be catchy yet painfully disinteresting all at the same time. Don’t get me wrong, Wonder What’s Next is a very listenable album, but you get the feeling the music’s not really going anywhere — except straight to soundbytes for The Real World 2003. I had a very difficult time maintaining curiosity throughout a whole song, let alone an entire album.
