Smoking Popes

The Party’s Over

Editor's Review:

It’s doubtful that any single act currently jockeying for position in the whirlwind that is pop-punk would cite Smoking Popes as an influence, even though they have released some of the most well-crafted songs of the last 10 years. After a brief hiatus, the Caterer brothers douse us all with yet another painfully beautiful vision of heartbreak. Josh Caterer has possibly the smoothest croon of any lead man ever and certainly evokes his past major label success. Impossibly catchy lyrics such as “Seven lonely days make one lonely week / Seven lonely nights make one lonely me” hearken to the days when this genre of music was fresh and vital. With luck, Smoking Popes will continue to bring humor and hope to old school indie kids everywhere.
