Tribute

Editor's Review:

While most tribute albums pass by the consumer with nary a mention and end up in the bargain bin at various local record stores, there are still those that assume the “diamond in the rough” role. This disc, recorded to honor the talent and influence of Smoking Popes, boasts a well-respected and diverse lineup of admirers. Bad Astronaut’s cover of “Megan” is perhaps the best adaptation and is met equally by Death On Wednesday’s version of “Let Them Die.” Other notable groups paying homage to the band include The Ataris (“Pretty Pathetic”), and Duvall, who just happens to be the singer from Smoking Popes new band. Forget about the time you bought that Led Zeppelin tribute that stunk your room up for years or the horrible Weezer tribute released last year and instead, put your listening faith in me and grab this disc.
