Ozma

Spending Time On the Borderline

Editor's Review:

Ozma has for too long been falsely accused of being Weezer rip-offs, and with the release of Spending Time On the Borderline, the group sheds its pop-punk exterior in favor of down-tempo love ballads and melodic keyboard leads. “Come Home Andrea” serves as proof that the band has grown as songwriters and stands to be the best song on the disc with its folk-y guitar leads and cello finale. The band’s harmonies play a large role in the song structure, which aside from keyboards also accommodates a few Middle Age-era flute lines. Ozma’s newfound maturity and unique delivery will surely set them apart from the Orange County scene that spawned them. The diversity in styles alone pulsing through this disc is reason enough to check it out.
