Alkaline Trio

Good Mourning

Editor's Review:

In the increasingly diverse genre of pop-punk, Alkaline Trio stands as the most talented of the lot while remaining primarily underground. The group’s latest offering lacks in obvious contrasts from 2001’s From Here To Infirmary, but that doesn’t mean that the band’s amazing vocal dynamics and refined pop sensibilities are any less appreciated or anticipated. Few bands today can last with two completely different songwriters contributing varying song subjects and melodies. Between bassist Dan Andriano’s tear-jerking croon and guitarist Matt Skiba’s scratchy vocal assault, Alkaline Trio have perfected a sound that is in dire need of a little innovation. Good Mourning ranges from classic power pop on tracks like “Emma” to a laid-back acoustic solo offering from Skiba. If you’re tired of being force-fed mall punk bands, pick this CD up to remind you what unique pop music sounds like.
