Little Brother

The Listening

Editor's Review:

?uestlove says he's jealous of them, and Pete Rock is labeling their album as a classic. The three-man ensemble of MCs - Big Pooh and Phonte, along with producer 9th Wonder - have created a 50 Cent-type buzz in the underground with their first offering, The Listening. This independent release brings back the soulful and jazzy grooves of the early '90s with a more modern lyrical approach. Songs like "Speed" really demonstrate the cohesiveness of the group, as each takes a different approach to the same topic, while 9th does what he does best by supplying another banger. More than anything, this album is something that really any hip-hop fan can feel, from the streets, to the backpackers. It's so good even The Source gave it 4 mics.
