Belvedere, Downway

Hometown Advantage

Editor's Review:

Canada’s flourishing punk rock scene has never been more finely encapsulated then it is on this split CD by two of the North’s finest bands. Downway’s persistent melody and dynamic guitar strumming situates itself firmly into the realm of pop-punk while remaining indifferent to the genre’s conventions. Belvedere’s blazing proficiency in the world of speed-punk is ever present and they continue to improve and polish their tried and true brand of rock. Though the disc does teeter on being a bit too repetitive, it serves as a brisk reminder that good new school punk doesn’t have to stem from the depths of SoCal. Pick this CD up if you were unaware of the unprecedented power and attitude of bands above the borderline.
