Hot Snakes, Rocket From the Crypt

Swami Sound System

Editor's Review:

So-called garage rock is all the rage right now, and as is the case with most all musical rages, the best and brightest among the raging masses are all too often ignored due to their existence in the independent business world and their unwillingness to make “hits” if their regular style isn’t crankin’ out MTV “Buzz Clips” fast enough. Consider this a compilation of some of those best and brightest. Of course this comp contains unreleased tracks from Swami stalwarts Hot Snakes and Rocket From the Crypt, as well as the sneering lo-fi attack of The Husbands; the dirty, South-of-the-Border-flavored, beach bar blues of The White Apes; the flat out punk of Mannequin Piss; and even the slightly math-y, furiously riff-mongering, instrumental metal of Loincloth. In short, the Swami knows how to pick ‘em, and this release is worth every bit of its six-dollar cover charge.
