Mondo Generator

A Drug Problem That Never Existed

Editor's Review:

Queens Of The Stone Age bassist Nick Oliveri may not be the same kind of songwriter as Queens frontman Josh Homme, but Oliveri is every bit as prolific. With The Dwarves’ Blag Dahlia and producer Brad Cook (Foo Fighters, Vandals, RL Burnside) by his side, Oliveri presents listeners with Mondo Generator’s second release; 14 screaming and unapologetic rock ‘n’ roll tunes about the finer points of the lifestyle. Tunes like “Meth, I hear You Calling” and “F.Y. I’m Free” are over-the-top with psychotic energy, feverish rhythmic assaults masked with caterwauled vocals, broad riffage and sonic layering. Despite being lightened by softer tunes like the acoustic guitar-rooted “All I Can Do,” there’s nothing undetermined and wispy about Mondo Generator. It’s all big-balled riffs and a fun time, fuck you attitude — the way rock ‘n’ roll is supposed to be.
