Dead Low Tide

Dead Low Tide

Editor's Review:

Aside from frontman Spencer Moody’s telltale caterwaul, there’s nothing in Dead Low Tide’s music that points to the members’ previous bands — The Murder City Devils and Enemymine — which is always a good sign. Sadly, this band is all but over; however, this 10-song posthumous release reveals an impressive repertoire for a group that didn’t last two years. The general vibe has tense churning passages of minimal guitar lines that often build into something much more sinister and looming, then explode into cacophonous un-muddied blasts of barely harnessed sonic force. Both stellar tracks from the group’s debut 7-inch record are here — “Ill Eagle” and “Lazer Lazer Lazer Love” — as are eight more, including “Blues Come Easy” with a scalar bass intro that leads into a storm of screaming guitar backed by thunderous bass and huge drum sounds. If a band is going to make only one album, this is the one to make.
