Lifesavas

Spirit In Stone

Editor's Review:

I could sum this album up in two words: real dope. Every aspect of this debut release from Portland’s Jumbo and Versatile is on point. What makes this album so unique is that no two songs sound alike. Jumbo, who handles most of the production duties, has a broad range of influences from the Irie “Selector” with J-Live, to the authentic jazz track “State of the World.” Versatile holds his weight, and then some with his potent lyrics. Whether he’s calling out his ego on the conceptual “Hellohihey,” or getting political on “Resist,” each track is thought out and purposeful. Lifesavas’ version of hip-hop pushes the norm, but at the same time they don’t go over the top with it.
