We Came From Beyond Volume 2

Editor's Review:

Mike Nardone has been repping the underground for 15 years with his LA-based radio show, We Came From Beyond. This comp is thick like Guinness with MCs from coast to coast donating some of their best work that you’ve never heard. West Coast up-and-comers Lifesavas and Declaime team up on “Government Cheese” on the smooth assassin tip, while Vast Aire’s “Why is the Sky Blue?” is fucking hard plain and simple. Other guests include J-Zone, Slug, Aesop Rock, Planet Asia and People Under The Stairs.

Atmosphere — a.k.a. rapper Slug and his DJ-dû-jour, usually Abilities or Mr. Dibbs — holds down hip-hip in the Midwestern mecca of Minneapolis, MN. A member of the Rhymesayers crew (along with Eyedea), this enigmatic romeo of a rapper has found huge success in the underground with releases like Se7ens and the available-on-tour-only Sad Clown Bad Dub series. With the wide release of 2002’s God Loves Ugly it’s just a matter of time before this honest and talented MC breaks out on a large scale.

J-Zone, a Queens-based producer, DJ, part-time MC and indie label owner has been putting out music on his own label, Old Maid Entertainment since his 1999 debut, Music For Tu Madre, which as it turns out, was his senior project from Purchase College in New York (Major in Music, minor in “pimpology”). J-Zone has toured the Eastern United States, Australia and various parts of Europe and the U.K., where the bulk of his fanbase resides. Other releases include 2000’s Bottle of Whup Ass, 2001’s Pimps Don’t Pay Taxes and several 12’ singles. He has produced tracks for Biz Markie, High and Mighty and Ra the Rugged Man, and his motto is: “Fuck You, Pay Me.”
