Pennywise

Land of the Free?

Editor's Review:

While some formerly great Epitaph punk bands seem to have eroded into happy little teen-pop punk bands with cute little spiked wristbands, Pennywise has somehow managed to grow straight up from its roots, lyrically bagging on the world and all its corruption and generally trying to piss off the baby boomers. This album is particularly heavy on the politics, with commentary on all the usual suspects: society, religion, society, the system, and oh yeah, society. Its bleeding-ass preachy-ness provides endless material to sit down with and brood over The Man, yet it still provides some new material to bang your head to when you’re all pumped up after vandalizing police cars and stealing road signs. The day Pennywise gets happy is the day I start voting Republican.
