Charlie Hunter

Right Now Move

Editor's Review:

Though jazz may still be a mysterious and relatively untapped musical genre for many of the young and impressionable, regardless of your musical inclinations, Charlie Hunter is simply a treat. This uniquely talented player made a name for himself on an unusual instrument; the eight-string guitar, which is basically a hybrid bass / guitar, contained on one neck. Simultaneously flinging Leslie speaker-laced melodic lines, bass grooves and punchy chords, Hunter flawlessly does with one instrument what usually sweats a talented two. A testament to his prowess, the Charlie Hunter Quintet more resembles a sextet, and the songs presented on Right Now Move, replete with muted stabs, rolling phrases and instinctive arrangements that flow freely but return to hit the head in unison, showcase not only Hunter’s exceptional playing, but compositions as well. He’s got game.
