The Heartless Control of Everything

Editor's Review:

With their debut album, The Heartless Control of Everything, The Chiodos Bros. come out of the corner swinging. The time and energy that the band put into crafting their tricky brand of indie-emo-whatever you want to call it rock is certainly evident, and the resulting sound is a heartfelt and fairly enjoyable experience. Combining clinking keyboards, scream-sung harmonies, crunching breakdowns and general “show-off” musicianship, they present an enticing package with the excitement, frustration and youthful exuberance captured as excellently as the instrument tones…and the mistakes. Sacrificing tightness for energy is a sticky equation, and in the end The Chiodos Bros. come off like a potentially great band performing great tunes, poorly. The sloppiness on behalf of the drummer is irritating; the band shows their budding talent, but also their dire need for metronomes.
