Eric McFadden Trio

Diamonds to Coal

Editor's Review:

If you have never had your ass kicked by a double bass, you should try it someday. Topping the long list of things the Eric McFadden Trio is good at, the otherworldly sounds that come out of bassist James Whiton’s instrument are one feature that sets this band far apart from the standard radio-band dung heap. Another one is the fact that the only guitars you will hear on the album, or live, are acoustic — plugged in, with a lot of distortion. Armed with these, as well as some versatile vocal chords and a host of trance-inducing songs, Eric McFadden wrecks shop and boinks yer mom, musically. On this album the band has help from a host of artists, including George Clinton, and a few other instruments. Everything is acoustic, though. Acoustic and beautifully loud.
