Statuette

Editor's Review:

To elaborate on a personal inability to accurately describe the sounds emitted from what I describe as the indefinable duo would probably be redundant. And with the release of Statuette, The Americas reside in a realm of the music world that is largely set-aside for musicians themselves. What I can say, with unparalleled confidence, is that Statuette is the most exciting, raw and talent-laden piece of local music that has come about during my short tenure here in Chico, California.
Beginning with an anomaly of sorts for the band, the first track, “As Of Yet Titled,” builds up from crafty guitar effects and pulsing bass drumming to what you think will be a raucous noise experiment, but then just as suddenly morphs into a soft guitar strum coupled with a funkier drum approach. Overall, the disc is superior, quality-wise, to last year’s Rinds Of Glory EP, but the same amount of tact that the band uses to harness its bombastic live show is evident in each song on Statuette.
Perhaps the absolute peak of the album, and almost certainly the proverbial staple of The Americas live show, emerges as “Siam Brass Knuckles,” a testament if there ever was one to the impossible dynamics and untamed aggression of this pair. Launching first with dissonant guitar plucks (or so it seems at first listen) then abruptly incorporating drummer Casey Deitz’s incessant drum fills, the track somehow turns out to be the most melodic piece the band has yet endeavored to create.
