Robert Randolph & the Family Band

Editor's Review:

There are many bands who rock with God in their hearts, but there are few that will make you jump up and scream “Halleujah!” like Robert Randolph & the Family Band. On Unclasified, the band’s first release on Warner Brothers and their follow up to 2002’s deliriously entertaining Live at the Wetlands, Robert Randolph features a more polished and tighter sound. Vocals provided by full-time members Robert and Danyel Morgan (bass) and contributors Lenesha Randoph and Ricky Fowler (who duet on “Smile”) are as smooth and soulful as they are lively and energizing. But it’s on the loose instrumentals — “Squeeze,” “Calypso” and “Run For Your Life” — that Robert Randolph & the Family Band preach their sermon most fervently. The production value seems a little too glossy for this style of music, but it still shouldn’t take more than one listen to convert you to the choir.
