Rasco

Escape From Alcatraz

Editor's Review:

Rasco is a Bay Area icon, and has been since his first album. His collaboration with Planet Asia for the Cali Agents album only helped out his career. But his latest album, Escape From Alcatraz, stands out as an obvious disappointment for one reason; the production. The repetitive beats grow old after only a few listens because of the similarity between tracks. Lyrically, Rasco flows are as good as I remember, yet this time around he seems to focus a lot on a former label owner, Jon Sexton, who made the mistake of pissing off Rasco. Bad Idea. All in all, the album is mediocre, not one track stands out like his past work. Guest spots include hip-hop has-beens Casual and (soon to be) Charli 2na. As much respect as I have for Rasco, I can’t help wonder how much his former producer, Peanut Butter Wolf, would have helped out this album.
