Kinski
Kinski / Acid Mothers Temple
Editor's Review:
This is the latest in a long-running and loose series of split releases from Sub Pop, the most famous of which reach back to the Seattle-based über-indie label’s Reverend Horton Heat / Supersuckers days, and like most of the split releases this label has unleashed on the masses, this is as a good a pairing as they get. Both Kinski and Acid Mothers Temple share a common thread, a slightly similar approach to making music: Both bands are well adept at dissolving the ambient into the intense, both utilizing ethereal, organic tones of harmonic guitar and bass lines and minimal percussion. Acid Mothers Temple digs deeper into the slower, more churning and subdued elements, while Kinski’s spacey vibe often dissolves to massive and moving walls of sound that definitely define rock. In both cases, the details of the music lie in the sonic nuances and underpinning tides. This release is available on CD as well, but the vinyl set is really cool — one black and one white record, on a nice, thick pressing.– Max Sidman
