Murphy Lee

Murphy’s Law

Editor's Review:

There are certain laws that apply to rappers, but not to most of the common people like you and I. One of the most important rules is to put your boys on, once you blow up, regardless of how good they are at rapping. So when Nelly, whom I consider one of the most boring, overrated rappers in hip-hop today, introduced his St. Lunatics squad, I already had a stereotype of them in my mind. But after listening to the clever spoken Murphy Lee on his first solo album, Murphy’s Law, I immediately dropped all disbelief I had of him and appreciated his creativity and talent. Lyrically, conceptually and stylistically, Murphy Lee is better than anything we’ve heard from the St. Lunatics camp, including Nelly. Murphy Lee plain and simply kills it on tracks like “Luv Me Baby,” “Murphy Lee,” “Wat Da Hook Gon Be.” This is a very good mainstream hip-hop album; it has its low points, but I’d rather listen to this than most of the stuff out right now.
