Fat Beats Compilation Vol. 3

Editor's Review:

There is perhaps no better authority on burgeoning hip-hop than bi-coastal record label and distribution company Fat Beats, so it’s no surprise that the company’s series of compilation releases are among the best samplings of the current state of rap. This album, the third of these comps, generally focuses on the freshest of the up-and-comers, like the compellingly live sounding Little Brother and NYC indie producer and rapper extraordinaire J-Zone. But Fat Beats is also down by law in rap, and so it’s no surprise that this compilation also features new tracks from old schoolers like gangsta rap OG Just Ice; the ultra-smooth Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth; Krumb Snatcha with Gang Starr who step up with an authoritative showing; and J-Live, whose “The Day I Fell Off” is a sobering story of rap game reality.
