Slayer

Soundtrack to the Apocalypse

Editor's Review:

Despite the fact that they’ve never had a bona fide radio or MTV hit, have never been on the cover of Rolling Stone and are hated by just about everyone who fancies themselves a good American and a good Christian, Slayer is perhaps one of the biggest metal bands to ever invoke the name of the devil. This four-piece has been making brutal and heavily punishing rock for 20 years now, and there’s no denying their impact on the current state of hard music. There’s also no denying their continued reign on the world of metal. Slayer’s last studio effort, God Hates Us All (released on September 11th, 2001) won the seminal quartet a Grammy Award — not that they care — and they’ve never stopped touring, playing to a feverishly cultish audience that only seems to grow and diversify with time.
This limited edition five-disc box set stands as a greatest hits from one of the greatest metal bands ever. Packaged in a military-style ammo can box are four CDs, two of which are the greatest hits portion of the set, featuring the best songs from the Slayer’s two-decade studio career; a CD of rarities like alternate versions and various live tracks from the early 1980s through the late ‘90s; and one CD of a live show recorded at The Grove in Anaheim, CA. This set also contains a DVD titled Raw As Hell, that features nearly 20 years of official and bootleg video footage from all over the world, making this the king of all metal box sets.
