Kinky

Atlas

Editor's Review:

Mexican five-piece Kinky has taken some big steps forward in just the one year that has passed since their debut album. Atlas finds them mostly abandoning the straight-up dance / funk club tracks that filled their first CD in exchange for a more elaborate, creative and rock-tinged offering. Although they're still making party music, Kinky has added several elements to their sound that should earn them new followers in the United States. The opener, "Presidente," starts with heavy percussion and a bouncing bass line before giving way to a heavy chorus and an electric guitar riff that Linkin Park might appreciate. The vibe of this album remains consistent throughout its 11 songs, and in the end, Kinky has created a great album which won't isolate old fans, but offers enough fresh material to win some new ones.
