Barber Shop 2 Soundtrack

Editor's Review:

Soundtracks are a lot like chips and salsa; they bring all different types of people together who normally wouldn’t collectively gather. With that in mind, the Barber Shop 2 soundtrack is much like the salsa comparison, as it has the potential to bring all different types of hip-hop fans together. First and foremost, the soundtrack is radio friendly. It has commercial rappers and singers including some good ones, most notably Outkast, Mos Def and The Clipse (who sound like they have strep throat on their track “Pussy”). It has just the right blend of commercial and quality artists, including the Lil Jon-produced track titled “All” by Olivia, where Lil Jon jacks his own beat (Youngblood’s “Damn!”). I know, off the hook. For all the underground backpack snobs, the theme of jacking beats is continued with these commercial cats rapping and singing over God’s “Microphone Fiend” and Pharoahe Monch’s Soundbombing 2 track, “Mayor.”
If the movie is half as funny as the first, the popularity of the film should only help out the sales of the soundtrack. On a final note, I find it somewhat amazing that out of the four main actors in the film — Queen Latifah, Ice Cube, Eve and Cedric the Entertainer — only Eve contributes to the soundtrack. At least put a fucking Cedric skit on that shit. Don’t forget your roots!
