The Cooper Temple Clause

Kick Up the Fire and Let the Flames Break Loose

Editor's Review:

It may take a little while to acquire a taste for it, but The Cooper Temple Clause’s second full-length, Kick Up the Fire and Let the Flames Break Loose, proves to be worth the extra time and patience. Beginning with two slick rockers, “The Same Mistakes” and “Promises Promises,” the album unfolds in a myriad of different directions, some lulling and sweet (“Into My Arms”) others haunting and explosive (“A.I.M.”) Lead singer Ben Gautrey’s voice - reverberant and volleying over the band’s dense wall of sound - has an ethereal quality best utilized in the album’s sprawling 10-minute closer “Written Apology.” Though Kick Up the Fire…has a few standout tracks, it seems better suited to be ingested as a whole - a well-conceived album from start to finish.
