Trans Am

Liberation

Editor's Review:

The overall theme for Trans Am’s latest album is taken from our country’s current occupation of Iraq and the tension it is creating in the world. The first sound heard on Liberation is the escalating noise of a helicopter lifting off. As the noise reaches its peak on “Outmoder,” punchy drums drop in and effects are applied to give the helicopter an unnaturally spacey sound. It’s not until track six, “Music For Dogs,” that the pulsating programmed beats and dirty guitars receive real singing accompaniment. The idea of tweaking war-related samples manifests itself in “Uninvited Guest,” which cuts and splices a speech on Operation Iraqi Freedom by the ever-eloquent President Bush. This results in such choice lines as “Our commitment to weapons of mass destruction is America’s tradition.” Obtain Liberation before Homeland Security confiscates it.
