Dilated Peoples

Neighborhood Watch

Editor's Review:

With DJ Babu as their backbone, MCs Evidence and Iriscience form Dilated Peoples, a respected underground LA hip-hop machine. The three members have incredible chemistry, which has produced some of LA’s and underground hip-hop’s finest in the past. This time around on Neighborhood Watch, Dilated stick to their bulletproof script of conscious, yet hard flow over smooth, yet hard beats that produce another noteworthy album. Neighborhood Watch has its share of producers; however, Dilated is able to stay true to their respected sound on each cut, whether it’s on old school homage tracks like the Alchemist-produced “Marathon,” or current club worthy jams like the Kanye West-produced lead single, “This Way.” In this writer’s opinion, it’s groups like Dilated Peoples that the originators of hip-hop had in mind when they thought about the future of the genre.
