They Might Be Giants
Indestructible Object
Editor's Review:
They Might Be Giants will release The Spine, their first full-length
rock album in over three years, later in 2004, but to whet their rabid fan base’s
apetite, the two Johns have cooked up a five-song EP, Indestructible Object.
Since it’s supposed to act as a teaser for their forthcoming LP, Indestructible
Object comes off stunted, but enjoyable, nonetheless. “Am I Awake?”
kicks the EP off with a healthy dose of quirky electronica, then gives way to
“Memo to Human Resources” (from The Spine), a refeshing
and contemporary piece of jangly, guitar-driven pop; the distinction between
these two tracks is striking and showcases how TMBG are able to morph their
sound while retaining their sharp wit, personality and sincerity. If you just
can’t wait for The Spine, Indestructible Object won’t
fill the void, but it certainly won’t disappoint, either.
