Talib Kweli, Kenn Starr

“If” b/w “Walk the Walk”

Editor's Review:

This is the first single off the slept-on You Don’t Know The Half compilation from Halftooth Records. The A-side features rookie Kenn Starr, Asheru and Talib Kweli dropping 12-bar jewels over a buttery Oddisee-produced beat. All three MCs’ styles blend beautifully with smooth delivery and nutritious lyrics. However, it’s the B-side that really makes this 12-inch worth the cash. “Walk the Walk” finds Kenn Starr on the solo, addressing rappers who talk about a life they don’t live. With another nice Oddisee beat, Starr says it like it is with lines like, “I live what I talk / no reason to front / but some of ya’ll got it twisted like trees in a blunt.” Download it if you have to; just introduce your ears to Kenn Starr.
