Vast Aire

Look Mom…No Hands

Editor's Review:

Underground heads have longed for Vast Aire’s return to wax since his group Cannibal Ox released the certified classic The Cold Vein. After three years it’s finally here, 16 tracks deep with production from Madlib, RJD2 and Ayatollah, and lyrical contributions from Sadat X, Aesop Rock and an MF DOOM song that is simply ricockulous. Vast’s flow breathes the streets of Harlem, and is flooded with abstract metaphors that might take you a couple of times to catch. Nothing about him is like any other MC, from his voice to his delivery. It doesn’t work for some, and I can understand why, but there is something addictive in his music that just sounds dope to me. By no means is it a flawless album, but for a solo debut it’s on-point.
