Nas
Video Anthology Vol.1
Editor's Review:
Released on the same day as the 10th Anniversary edition of Illmatic, this DVD anthology chronicles Nas’ career from “It Ain’t Hard to Tell” up to “I Can.” The early videos will make one reminisce about the “golden age” of hip-hop before the preponderance of politics and money grasped the culture. Although this collection is complete, it would have been a plus to include videos from the Firm album along with the controversial version of “Hate Me Now,” depicting the then-Puffy on the cross and resulting in Steve Stout’s (Nas’ manager) ass-whipping. Peep the commentaries for some interesting little known facts. (Did you know the video for “Nastradamus” was meant to be a 3-D video accompanied with 3-D glasses?) The only downfall of this release, which calls for another ass whipping, is that some of the videos are out of order such as “Nas Is Like” preceding “The World Is Yours.”- Shariel Badal
