Howling…It Grows and Grows

Editor's Review:

With Howling…It Grows and Grows, The Catheters present a brief collection of fashionably fuzzy, high-powered rock ‘n’ roll. Instantly accessible and gratifying, they unleash music that’s impossible to ignore, regardless of whether the reaction is positive or negative. Howling… is 11 hot songs served up in a speedy 33 minutes. Despite their economy, however, there’s nothing efficient about their sound; the slop is taken in stride and each haphazard strum and sour note somehow come together with at least a semblance of cohesion, which is what gives The Catheters their charm. Howling… comes out fast and hard with “No Natural Law” and the sweltering “Reaction,” but instead of growing and growing, the energy seems to stay at the same, albeit high, level. This CD provides plenty of sweat-soaked fun, even if it does seem to be spinning its wheels at times.
