Brazil

A Hostage and the Meaning of Life

Editor's Review:

I threw Brazil's latest album on the playlist at a late night Beer Pong party to see what kind of reception it would garner. Having never previously heard the band, I had no way of knowing if I was about to bring the festivities to a screeching halt or not. I was pleasently surprised to find that A Hostage and the Meaning of Life offered a rockin' atmospheric soundtrack to the night. After the alubm was over, I asked the intoxicated revelers what their opinion was. Half gave it the thumbs up, a few looked at me with blank expressions and a couple gave it the thumbs down. Luckily, those douchebags don't get to review CDs and I do. Brazil kicks ass. They seamlessly employ strings, saxophone and keyboards, along with unique vocals to create proof-positive evidence of their talents and abilities. With A Hostage…, they effectively transcend the commercial crap of the industry and offer a high-energy alt-rock alternative to the mainstream. Definitely a record I'll be revisiting.
