The sticker on the cover of The Punisher proclaims “19 New Songs” but what the purchaser really receives are 18 pieces of corporate crap and one mediocre cover song. These pieces may be new, but they are all in the same expired hard rock formula comprising the current wasteland that is popular rock music. Drowning Pool, Puddle Of Mudd and Nickelback are among the wankers using interchangeable macho vocals and guitar riffs, with the same slight touch of distortion (not enough to disturb middle America). Queens of the Stone Age’s cover of Romeo Void’s “Never Say Never” is a welcome change, but lacks the flirtatious fun of the original. This is another unnecessary, money grabbing soundtrack. Save your dollars for the graphic novel, written by the great Garth Ennis, on which the film was based.
