Lagwagon, No Use For A Name and Joey Cape & Tony Sly

Acoustic

Editor's Review:

It seems that Fat Wreck Chords took on this project to prove that punk music has lyrical value. In this case, I’m not sure it worked. Acoustic features Joey Cape (Lagwagon) and Tony Sly (No Use For a Name) doing acoustic renditions of some of their best songs. Sly’s tracks are simple and honest, dealing with various pop-punk issues like drinking, girls and more drinking. Cape’s tracks are a bit more beefed-up, adding piano, cello and violin to various songs. The sound is definitely nice, but the substance isn’t there. Cape and Sly have been touted as Fat Wreck Chords’ best songwriters, which I guess isn’t saying a whole lot, but if you’re feeling particularly adolescent and your roommates have banned Dashboard Confessional, pop this CD in and angst your little heart out.
