Michael Franti

Songs From the Front Porch: An Acoustic Collection

Editor's Review:

Despite his years of musicianship, it wasn’t until only recently that Franti learned to play the guitar; albeit the extent of his newfound love reaches no further than a few simple chords. In Songs From the Front Porch, he applies this act-in-development toward an offering of nothing new or special. Really, the album is not as much a slowed transit to chastity as much as it is just a stripped down version of something better, most notable in “Sometimes,” and “Stay Human.” One of Franti’s fortes is his inspiration via the upbeat; the passion within his deep voice is still present, yet somehow depleted without the party-like rhythm of his usual backing. This album seems half-assed…possibly a lazy ploy to stall fans in between more noteworthy projects.
