Flogging Molly

Within a Mile of Home

Editor's Review:

Flogging Molly is back with a new album of energetic Irish punk rock entitled Within a Mile of Home. While not quite as good as their first offering Swagger, their latest does prove to be a keeper. This seven-piece band continues to follow in the footsteps of the impeccable Pogues. Dave King’s charming Irish accent and the use of fiddle, tin whistle, spoons and mandolin all give the music that wonderful Celtic flavor. This is evident on the spoon clicking intro to “Seven Deadly Sins,” which serves as a calm before the punk storm that follows. “Factory Girls” is an enjoyable duet featuring Lucinda Williams that is reminiscent of Kirsty MacColl’s teaming with the aforementioned Pogues. If you like either punk or traditional Irish music, definitely give Flogging Molly a go.
