The Briefs

Sex Objects

Editor's Review:

The Briefs somehow manage to embody all the classic tenets of punk, both musically and visually, without being derivative or manufactured. Lyrically, they hit on the punk staples of being an outsider and hating the government, with the songs sung in a suitably snotty style. “Destroy the USA” covers both of these topics with shouted lyrics like “I hate terror alerts from stupid jerks / land of the free idiocy / I hate bills that are new / drinks that are blue / I hate myself and I hate you.” The guitars of Daniel J. Travanti and Steve E. Nix are simple, angular and propulsive. They grab the listener and run like a son of a bitch. In a hollow Hot Topic culture filled with punk rockers who only look the part, The Briefs are 100 percent.
