Son, Ambulance

Key

Editor's Review:

Key, like the first album from Son, Ambulance, will disappoint those looking for the same magic recorded on Oh Holy Fools, the split EP they shared with label mates Bright Eyes. What this album will do is force you to appreciate this band for what they really are, instead of what you want them to be. Joe Knapp’s vocal flavor has an aftertaste that is indefinable by any Saddle Creek stereotypes. Most of the tracks on this album are piano-driven confessional poems that have just the right amount of bitterness to them. Key is a good addition to an assortment of collection-worthy albums released this year by Saddle Creek.
