David Bowie

A Reality Tour

Editor's Review:

The return of the thin white duke-turned-sleek gray fox (okay, he’s blond on this tour but Bowie’s gotta be dying that shit) comes in a 30-song set of short attention span theater geared toward the MTV generation. Decked out in near post-apocalyptic rock wardrobes, Bowie and company almost play second fiddle to A Reality Tour’s production aesthetic, which packs enough razzle-dazzle to eye-fuck a Matrix fan. Skirting the line between fashionable and questionable has always been part of the Bowie ethos — hell, Bowie’s iconography in part comes from his chameleon-like bent for adaptability, not just the whole Ziggy Stardust spiel. The endless cycle of panning freeze-frames, jump cuts, fades and color washes unabashedly proclaims this DVD’s trendiness…and soon will document its datedness. You can take or leave the visual pyrotechnics, but the music’s awesome.
