Cali Agents, Rasco and Planet Asia

The Minority Report

Editor's Review:

When it comes to Bay Area underground hip-hop, Rasco stands out among the wealth of talent, but on his latest album, The Minority Report, it is his protégées that get the chance to shine. Artists who stand out include Jean Grae on “It’s a Wrap,” an ode to her superior rhyming skills, Chuck Taylor on the smooth “Get Done,” and Prophet, whose unique rhyming style on “Hustla” takes a rather ordinary song about surviving life on the streets and makes it one of the best on the album. The album also includes solo tracks by Rasco and Planet Asia, who later team up on “Let’s Get it On,” a classic Cali Agents joint. Overall, The Minority Report is not quite as good as a Cali Agents album, but it’s a good showcase of up-and-coming Bay Area MCs.
