Underoath

They’re Only Chasing Safety

Editor's Review:

Metallic emocore bands seem to be popping up faster than zits on the faces of the genre’s mostly adolescent fan base. It goes without saying that the majority of these bands (more or less any band on Victory Records) will see their day in the Warped Tour spotlight come and go all too quickly. But Underoath is the exception to this rule. Despite the fact that Underoath fit snugly into the Hot Topic musical trend of the month, their extremely deft songwriting skills, technical proficiency and wise choice of producer — James Paul Wisner of Dashboard Confession / Further Seems Forever fame — guarantee that They’re Only Chasing Safety, and hopefully Underoath themselves, will outlast the bangwagon jumpers. Keyboards, hollering, breakdowns, impeccable pop hooks; what more could a boy ask for?
