Goldfinger

Disconnection Notice

Editor's Review:

How much further can Goldfinger sink themselves into the hearts and wallets of pubescent mall rockers currently suckling mainstream’s pierced and bloated nipple? Pushing a baby formula splashed with reggae skank; thick, crunchy guitar riffs; bubblegum pop; and beyond-singable vocal melodies, Goldfinger succeeds in creating yet another album to score the future nostalgia of dorm life or the smell of Mom’s station wagon. But jaded incredulousness aside, Goldfinger should be commended for both their sheer catchy splendor and the chances they’ve taken on this release. Where a full bore return to wallet-chain pop-punk could have easily pleased the band’s fair-weather fans, John Feldmann and company expand the boundaries with moments of shivering introspection (the plaintive, mandolin-heavy “Damage”) and questioning social values (“FBI.”). Disconnection Notice may be innocuous and safe at times, but it’s still the homecoming king of its class.
