Hot Water Music

The New What Next

Editor's Review:

A general description of The New What Next would read “Hot Water Music’s new album contains mid-tempo rock songs that combine cathartic melodies with minor chords and emotive vocals.” While this is true of the new album, the description is missing a vital component of the band’s music, a humanistic concept that such a broad portrayal can’t articulate: these dudes have heart. On “Under Everything” the vocals soar above the raging guitars with the line “Time is such a wasted luxury,” begging the listener to cherish every second of their meaningful lives. Then songs like “The End of the Line” wrap around the listener with massive hooks and precise drumming, proving honest music can be catchy as well. In a time where sincerity has been traded in for artificial screaming, it makes me happy that Hot Water Music is still alive and well.
